Question It felt like the S got kicked in the balls!

So im driving to work today and hit an open stretch. I remember that last night I took the air box lid off to hear some SUCKING ACTION so I decided to punch it. SOUNDED GREAT! Then I came to a stop sign...stoped...left right left, no one coming...dropped the clutch and went. I took it up to mabye 7K and right as Im getting ready to shift the whole car s front dropped down and the S slowed down...a good amount. Enough to where as soon as it happened I pushed the clutch in and said WTF WAS THAT?! I then took a breath...pulled the clutch out and the car ran fine the rest of the way to work.

Its a 2000 S with almost 17K on it bought from a 60yr guy...car is spotless. Only mods I did were the taking the lid off...I KNOW, its not a mod. But thats it. Cars stock. I will say now that the lid is off the maint. light comes on but goes away...could just taking the lid off do this? It felt like the S got kicked right in the balls!

Was your car at operating temp? This will happen if it is not.

Did you get it up to 3 bars???
And,yes, every time you remove the lid,the maint.light will come on,telling you,you just did something wrong.!!!

It sounds like that you didn't allow the S to warm up. Our cars have two fuel shutoffs. One to prevent damage when the car isn't warm enough, that kicks in right about the time you hit Vtec. The second kicks in whenever you are about to hit the rev-limiter.

Now that being said, if you have a maintenance light don't worry about it too much, the S has a timer that occasionally kicks on a light to say "Hey work on me". But if you have a Check Engine Light, then I would be worried.

AH NOT SHITZ
I didnt know about the 2 fuel shutoffs...
Ye this morning it was like 50 degrees and I had been driving about 1-2minutes, I think I was at 1 bar...mabye 2.....WOW punching it and not waiting till proper warm up makes me feel like a NOOB...guess I got pwned here
Think any damage was done or no because thats what the 2 fuel cut offs are for.

So mabye it was more like a tap in the balls then ...although...sometimes taps hurt more.
Hopefully the S doesnt have permanent Blue balls now...or should I say Berlina Balls

That rev limiter you hit has a "special" name.
But I forgot what it was.......

I'm sure others remember it.

You shouldn't go redlining ANY car when the motor is cold. Be nice to your S.

Your car should be fine. Thats what the cold rev limiter is there for. It lets you know that if you take it to redline on a cold engine, it'll kick you in the balls for doing that.

o...and put that air box lid back on.

Welcome to S2KI
