Changed my oil a couple days ago with Castrol Edge 10W30 and a Honda PCX oil filter. Wondering if the filter I installed has an issue with it's anti drain back valve. I noticed the last two mornings when starting the car in the garage(car sat for at least 12 hours), the oil light would stay on for about 2 seconds before going out. The same exact thing it does on start-up after you install a new oil filter and don't prime it before hand. Tried it again this morning, oil light did the same thing. Didn't let the car warm up, and cut it off. Started it a couple minutes later, and the oil light instantly goes out. The car did not exhibit this before the oil/filter change.

Maybe. What else is different before and after the change?

What's the current oil level?

Different brand oil?

Any leaks by the filter on the block?

No leaks whatsoever. Oil level is good. Old oil was Mobil 1, and old filter was a PCX.

It can't be the oil. Try a diff filter and see what happens.

it won't be from oil draining out of the filter because the filter points upwards on this engine, even with a bad anti-drain back valve it shouldn't affect start up oil pressure.

Well, considering it's acting like I didn't prime the new filter with oil, I would think it's a drain back issue. I mean, that's exactly what happens when I haven't put enough oil in the filter during an oil change. The light would stay on for an extra second while the filter filled up with oil and built pressure.

Is there any other part in the system that holds oil like the filter, which keeps the system primed before a start up?

Just change the filter and see if that helps.

I feel like the filter one oil change ago was doing the same thing FISH. After changing the oil and filer this last time it is back to normal now but I also got worried about it staying on a few seconds longer then normal. I'd like to know as well but I'm thinking it could be the filter as this went away after an oil + filter change.

I never fill my new filters with oil before I install them... am I suppose to?!?!?
