faint smell of coolant

I get my oil analysis done at a local CAT/Toromont dealer, there is one in every major area so they are easy to find. Just pick up the sample kit , put some used oil in it and give it back to them to send off to their lab for results, it costs about twenty bucks give or take. A lot of people use Blackstone labs, you might want to check their website on how to buy their kits.
If you have a bad head gasket the oil will be in the coolant very quickly, so you might see signs of it. Definitely fill the reservoir to full and drive the car for a bit to see if the level is stable. Honda rads are known for cracking along the plastic top and joints, keep an eye on those areas after a good drive, use a flashlight to inspect all of the joints where plastic meets metal (joints). Also check under the water pump, they can leak if they are faulty but it is rare.

I have a similar issue. After a drive thats long enough to get the car warmed up I usually smell coolant around the engine bay, especially if I pop the hood. The car doesn't smoke or burn any coolant and there isn't any oil in my coolant, etc. I think maybe I might have a small leak or seeping spot on one of my hoses but I haven't had time to check it out.

trAP2 your head gasket is fine. Smell the coolant in the res to familiarize yourself. Coolant smell is very distinctive.
IF it's coolant you smell, you have a coolant leak. Your leak is very small and the coolant is burning off before it can hit the ground.
Put a presure tester on there, get a bright flashlight, put the car on ramps and start looking. I promise you you'll find your leak.
Another thing I can promise...you will have head gasket leaks if you use ARP head studs on this car. I've been posting it since 2004.
