A moving core could ruin your EXPENSIVE O2 sensor.
So it does matter... to have it fixed.

I think you misread my post. I said it was junk either way, which is why it doesn't matter whether it's broken or loose.

Standard procedure for Honda. My dealer had to do the same to file a warranty claim even though an independent shop pulled my cat and it was obvious what the problem was (O2 sensor also decapitated on mine).

Bought my S brand new in 08 cat broke apart from the inside in 09 Honda told me because of my car was lowered I probably smacked it on something, so after awhile of looking I bought a used oem from the forum sounded great but I think I had waited to long because my o2 sensor is now messed up throwing a cel every now and then. Everytime I plug it up its always same code for my cat . Sucks. Honda screwed me. I had factory warranty still and they said nope it'll cost you. Also tried to tell me that my windshield molding was suppose to be all wrinkled and coming out of the seam. "It's from the heat it expands and contracts". Wrong its a faulty part from Honda that they are suppose to fix for free. They have a TSB about it, f--k a Honda dealership, just a bunch of idiots collecting pay checks.
