Failed motor not covered?
Hey Guys,
Has anyone ever had a blown motor covered by Honda? I've seen a lot of failed engines on this board and it seems they always diagnose it as an over-rev and deny coverage.

Yes, there have been several cases posted on this board of Honda rebuilding a motor on warranty.
They generally can tell if there was an over-rev, in which case, it is no surprise that they will deny.

I've been told by a local forum member who is also a top S2000 mechanic in Edmonton that the ECU logs the highest rpm reached. They can pull that out with ease. Also, an over-rev would likely show evidence of valve and piston top damage. With a single cylinder damage, you might suspect valve spring or retainer failure and this would be a warranty issue but damage to more than one cylinder is usually a dead give away.
