Default F22C & Synthetic Oil?

Okay before I get slammed here . . . "Do a search DORK", I'm a happy new owner of an '05 S2000 (Sebring Silver).

Awesome car, ordered an Amuse R1 Ti catback (no resonator) the same day I picked it up (the 2 month wait is a killer).

I have a question for you, I was just wondering how many of you are running synthetic oil in your S2000's and whether you think it is necessary or any better than the OEM Honda oil.

My last car was an '03 Evo VIII, awesome car, stupid fast with handling to match. I didn't want to let it go so I sold it to my Son (he's a happy camper) to make room for the S2k.

That car was factory filled with 10W-30 Mobil1, I was just wondering how many people are running synthetic oil.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Don't run synthetic before 10K miles....as for the advantages of synthetic over min-oil it just depends upon driving conditions. Check Oil Journals in UTH for more info...

No Honda car was filled at factory with Mobil1 (synthetic oil), Your S was filled with special Mobil break-in dino oil that has very moly count at Honda factory. You should not change out this break-in oil until atleast 3750 miles under severe driving condition, or 7500 miles under normal conditions. Either case, you should not use synthetic oil until passed 7500 miles.

Hey thanks for the info, actually I was referring to the Evo and the factory fill.

Another question, I know that they run a special break-in oil from the factory but the dealer told me I could do the first oil change at 3750? I've been running it easy letting it break in but haven't seen anything in the owners manual about running to 7500 on the first change.

I had an '04 Acura RSX Type S A-Spec and on that one they said specifically to go to 5k before the first oil change.

Thanks again for all of the info

The owner manual states 2 different schedule maintenances: One for servere driving condition and one for normal driving condition. Under normal driving condition, you will not need to change oil until every 7500 miles. If you change out the special break-in oil before 7500 miles, then you should use conventional oil with high moly count, such as Halvoline GF4 oil and add a bottle of Valvoline Maxlife Engine Treament or Valvoline Supersyn Oil Treatment to bring the moly count close to special break-in oil.

are you gonna drive the car hard?
if not, just run valvoline and be done with it. if you wanna change the oil early, before 3750. just add a can of MR moly. done deal. and yeah, dont go synthetic till after 10k. my choice. amsoil, 10/30.
oh yeah. on top of all this. change your diff fluid, go LE607. at about 2k miles. youll cry at what comes out of your diff. metal flake grey paint, LOL. any other Q's PM me. lates dave

I actually run my cars pretty easy I think. I mean I always warm them up, cruise easy until the fluids get warm but I drive a winding road that's almost 10 miles long on my commute to work (it's actually the highlight of my work day) and like to occasionally stand on the gas in the twisties.

Lots of good advice here . . . S2000Nvegas, nice 66'! That was the car I learned to drive in, a 66' SS Chevelle, 396, four speed, positraction and the factory tach and gauge package, what a tire burner!

I'm a drag racer from way back so I've had many small and big block rides.

Thanks again for the info,
Bob

Excellents suggestions here IMO aside from the fact that Regular Valvoline, not their MaxLife product, is really a poor choice considering the much higher quality conventional oil's available these days. Chevron Supreme, Havoline, and Pennzoil are of far better quality FYI.
