put the ap2 secondary gear in your ap1 tranny if you want the gearing advantage.
I just got finished with a trans rebuild, that would actually be quite easy. Job can be done with trans in the car.
-loosen nut on output flange
-remove tailshaft housing bolts and tailshaft housing (the tailshaft, output drive flange, and housing will all come off together)
-Remove the now exposed nut on the countershaft with a 38mm socket (LEFT HAND thread).
-using a 3-jaw puller, pull the drive gear and bearing off together, by placing the puller under the drive gear teeth. you will not harm the gear or the bearing this way, and it doesn't take much puller effort at all.
-Now tap your new AP2 drive gear on, bearing, and re-nut it.
-now for the tailshaft...remove the nut (which you loosened before) that holds the drive flange on, and remove the tailshaft. The shaft and gear are a one piece unit.
-put it back together with your AP2 tailshaft, and put it back on the trans.
-Tighten nut
This is by no means a DIY. It is however a great guide for anyone with reasonable mechanical ability.
