i had this symptom just a day ago. car was not started for a week. it was low on gas. after i put fresh 93 octane and put the car through its paces the burble was gone. it could very well be old/un burned fuel. or the ecu was resetted not too long ago and was not put through the relearning procedure.

One other thing to check is for any holes in the your exhaust, the loops behind the mufflers are known rusting spots and tend to be the first areas to go on the exhaust. Good luck and post up any findings.

Oh! I just learned that the mating between the catback and the cat itself is just a metal ring embedded into the pipe. there's no "gasket" per se. at least that was the case for me yesterday. Could be leaking there?

That is correct. Usually if you have a leak there you will see sources of leakage around the seal and water drop markings or dark soot escaping, etc. Probably not the source of your exhaust noise unless it was really loose.

Nah there are definitely no exhaust leaks... I appreciate all the fresh ideas... I'll work my way through it... Would love to keep the sound tho... it really does sound pretty mean.
