Exhaust Advice

About a week ago, I got rear-ended at a stoplight at aprox. 7mph. There was enough damage to replace the bumper, the right muffler tip, and I also had to have the malfunction light reset. I pushed for a new set of mufflers from the body shop, but no dice. I got the car back today and bad news. Sputtering from the exhaust! It sounds like low-volume bass when heard from the back, but is inconsistent. Most noticeable when the car has been warmed up, then parked with the engine still on. What are my options? Honda has an unlimited muffler warranty, but does the accident void that? And the engine light is back. Thank you a thousand thank yous for your time.

Yep. Call your insurance company, explain the issue you are having, and they will probably contact the other insurance company and insist that they allow troubleshooting and repair of the problem. Be prepared, though, for the possibility that the problem has nothing to do with the accident and then you will be responsible for the repair. The accident should only void the warranty if the accident was the cause of an exhaust problem but then the insurance that paid for the other repairs should pay to repair it. If the repair is done through the dealer, then the exhaust warranty should be in effect after that. Ask. The big question is: Why did the CEL come on. What was the code?

The exhaust is 1 piece from the convertor back. If it was bent in the accident, It should be replaced as an assembly, not have some exhaust shop hack and slash attempt at fixing it.
Mufflers are not seperate from the rest of the piping.
