Default Even more questions about the VAFC

I have noticed that most of the people that have the VAFC are at or close to sea level. As I'm sure you can see, I'm not. My question is...Does altitude have to do with the effectivness of the VAFC. The reason I ask is because when I took it in to get dyno tuned, the people weren't able to get anything more than a base dyno out of it. I wrote it off due to the fact that the shop looked more like they worked on domestics and weren't familiar with the whole electronics side of the import house. Any input is appreciated.

PS I already have the VAFC, and I know I need it for the turbo but I'm asking so that other people don't waste their money and buy something that won't work at this altitude like it does at sea level.

thats the first time i have heard the VAFC didnt provide any gains in HP.. i would think atleast 5hp gain... to answer your question. maybe the tuner likey ou said is unfamiliar how to adjust your VAFC.. you might want to go and find another reputable tuner in your area to get it tuned.

Altitude should have no bearing on whether or not the VAFC works. I would think that what would matter is that your settings would need to be changed at sea level than at the higher attitude. I know that in the DSM community there are folks who believe that the SAFC needs to be calibrated even for seasonal temp settings.

Milo's post is somewhat discouraging. I don't think I'm quite willing to shell out nearly $800.00 Can. (vafc + harness) for just a mere 5 hp gain. I'm at about 3500 feet above sea level. I can fire my supersoaker backwards out the window for better effect.

xviper, don't let my post discourage you. Mine is the only case of the VAFC not making power. And that was just because I went to a bad tuner that I will never go to again.

this was over six months ago, and i did get a baseline dyno(which i want to compare any upgrades against). all they charged me for was the dyno time. besides, i don't feel like driving the hour+ to get back up there. It's only $50
