Billman -- Take a look at my post in the North Texas forum if you have time. I had a few retainers with the tiniest cracks, great valve clearance, and most if not all were sitting perfectly flush like they should Anyone with an AP1 should get this done.
Also AP1 retainers are 11g and the AP2's are 14g

You can also rotate the pistons to TDC and if the valve slips it drops only slightly but not enough that you cannot get the new retainer back on.
