Hey Bill, I really do agree you are quite the asset on these forums, and definitely one of the last remaining true s2k mechanics who are still on s2ki.

That being so, any comment to my above posted question 2 posts up?

The RPM which can break the AP2 retainers has definitely gone up from what it was. It may be close to, or even beyond, the point where the exhaust valves bend.

I've had a few AP2 customers who swore they broke something doing a serious money-shift. but of course all were fine.

I honestly don't think this will be an issue in the AP2. But I guess there's always a small chance for anything.

I will likely do intake AP2 retainers/keepers on my car only, if it comes apart.

Whatever you do, make sure you get someone who has experiance with this motor (the s2k motor, f20 in your case) as its a job that requires someone who knows what they are doing and furthermore cares about the car.
Do you know that someone in our area(other than cartek - just want to know more options). I'm planning to get it check out soon.

Last January, I replaced my AP1 retainers and valve cotters with AP2 retainers and valve cotters. The car runs just as good (if not better) as it did before doing the swap. I have put 15k miles on it since then, and I drive my car hard (it visits the rev-limiter from time-to-time). No problems!

I am curious about the limits of the AP2 retainer. I read (somewhere, about a year ago) that Honda tested the the breaking point of the valvetrain of the F20C. I believe the retainers let go around 10750rpm. Again, I am curious, as to what engine speed does the AP2 retainer let go. Does anyone know?

the rev limiter isn't how you break retainers

I love the "it didn't break for be in a 2wks, it must be perfect" and the "I made up a number" testimonals on s2ki.

I am not sure if this is in response to what I posted. But, I will assume it is.

I never said the rev limiter had anything to do with the retainers failing. I just stated that I read somewhere (not sure anymore, due to the amount of time that has passed since reading that article, which could have been erroneous information to begin with) that the valvetrain failed at 10750 rpm's. I was just curious if Honda has done such testing with the AP2 engine.

When I read Krazik's comments I thought they must have come from some visitor who was just stopped by to see if they could stir things up.

To answer your question about the AP2 retainers, as I understand it, the pistons will be hitting the valves before the AP2 retainers stretch and/or crack. Basically, before you trash the retainers you've already trashed the engine.
