I removed the electrical connector and reinstalled it on the VSS, and moved the switches back and forth a few times on the yellow jacket. Then I did the idle relearn procedure and I have not had the problem return....yet..... don't know which "cured" my problem but it is gone for now.

i think the exact thing happened to me today. here's my situation.

Jeff (hardtopguy) installed yellow box for me about 1.5 yrs ago due to me getting 4.77 gears. everything was fine.

I went to PTuning to install a VGS steering wheel (fabricated from an AP1 wheel). I have AP2 S2000 so I was using an AP2 air bag with the AP1 wheel. Even though the cruise control now misses the Cancel button, everything was fine when I drove home from the shop.

Later on tonight, I was driving and was readjusting my driver side mirror and that's when I saw the symptoms described above: 0mph and EPS light which then turned into CEL light.

I pulled the code and it came back P0500 - speed sensor faulty. I've removed this code so the light is gone now. But I was told that if I turn on my AC - it'd likely come back. I was also told I need "a better ground for the speed device" but not sure what this means. I'd like to fix this for once and for all.

It seems like the yellow box is where the issue is, can someone please direct me on how to fix it. To be honest with you, I don't even know what the yellow box looks like or where it is since I didn't install it. So if anyone can provide a pix and directions I'd greatly appreciate it .

I'm not geared anymore but if I recall correctly, it was a bad ground.

I replaced my VSS with a brand new one a week ago and today the problem returned. I am inclined to agree that perhaps it is a grounding issue....but where?
I will look beneath the car where I had to loosen the grounding wires while doing the clutch change out. I will report back my findings. The next suspect if this is not the problem would be a faulty yellow jacket.
Another odd symptom to this problem I thought I would add is that once the VSS error occurs and you get the 0 MPH and EPS and the CEL occasionally after about 30 seconds or so the engine just dies as if the fuel is cut off, until the car slows to about 20 MPH (guess because I have no indication) then the fuel returns and so does MPH indication and steering returns to normal.

Update: Yep, it was a faulty Yellow Jacket. I replaced it with a Yellow Box and all is well with the world again.
