Default "EPS" light......UPDATE!

I drove to work, no problems. Go to start my car starts up fine but I get the "EPS" light on the dash and the steering wheel is very tight.

I checked the 70amp fuse under the hood seems fine.

I checked all the 7.5 fuses under dash as I believe number 33 is for the power steering. I didnt know which it was so I checked all the 7.5's

Is there anything else I can check?

Any thoughts...please!

EPS stands for "Electric Power Steering". You are looking at the clutch fluid reservoir (which could use a change anyway). We don't have a hydraulic power steering. IE, no power steering fluid.
You need to get the EPS electronically diagnosed.

Thanks for the clarification.

What would you do Xviper if your EPS was on. I highly doubt you would take it to the dealer. You would handle it yourself.

What would you be checking to trouble shoot it?

I have a code scanner. I would start by seeing if I could pull the code. Then go from there. There are up to 33 differenct codes that can be generated.

Many times, these EPS lights are a temporary code and can go away on their own. For all we know, the next time you go out and drive the car, the light may be gone.

You didn't sit there with idling at more than 3000 rpm for more than 3 minutes, did you?

I would pull out my Helm manual and see what it has to say. It has a list of troubleshooting actions to take.

That's the classic, alright. I've gotten that EPS fault myself. It goes away on its own if you just drive the car.

Let me clarify not only is the light on I do not have power steering as well.

I let it idle for about 10 minutes while I was scratching my head. Then I checked the fuses. Made a point to pull out the "back up" fuse to reset ECU thinking that may help. It did not. Then I drove home.

Should I have drove in this state?

Steering is tight but its ok when the car gets going.

I want to make sure I explain myself well.

So if I deal with the light and the tough steering it will go away eventually? And I will get the power steering back?

OK, so it didn't go away. And yes, when the light is on, you don't have power steering. If it's going to come back on its own, it will do so within a minute or two of driving.

Either follow the checklist in the Helm manual or take it to a dealer (who will follow the checklist in the Helm manual and charge you $80/hr to do so).

Probably one of your wheel speed sensors died, or maybe the force sensor on the steering. But it could be lots of things. Dealer should be able to figure it out.
