Engine whining and wistle sound
Good day
I bought my S2000 3 weeks ago .. car has 46 000 miles on it ... body in great condition as well as interior and engine bay...
However I've noticed that the car is really noisy especialy at low speed... there is like à whine or whistle sound .. is it normal .. Not at iddle... only when start to accelerate .. Can you tell me if it is normal .. I read à lot of reviews that said that one of the negative points is the car is noisy but dont know if they are refering to such sound ..
Also it seems that the more the engine revs (3-3.5 k) before changing gear the more sound is present ..
Thank you

Car is fully stock and seems in great condition, at least by the look. Seems noisy while driving it every where either in my underground parking next to walls or on the street. I know it is not the same categories of cars, but my Venza or other previous 4 cyl cars never had such a sound.
I wanna take it to Honda dealer or other performance cars shop but before doing so I wanted to check with you so that way I would be aware of what the meccanic will be talking about and make sure that they are not trying to fool me with a couple of unecessary repairs.
Finaly the instructions book suggest that normal shifting should be at 15 mph 1 to 2nd and around 24 mph 2 to 3rd .. to do so engine in my car revs at 3.5-4 k rpm and then the whisling/whining is really present as a noise at that time ..
Thanks again for your advice guys ..

I had a similar issue to this. My car has quite a bit of modifications though.
It was after an autox event i noticed my car started to whistle when i accelerated.
Turned out that one of my catch can lines had a leak. PCV to Catch can.
I understand your car is stock, try check all the vacuum and intake lines? including the Secondary Air pump lines?

No help on engine whine but when I asked about shift points two years ago when I bought my 2006 car the recommendation was 4300 rpm for normal driving.
Being a new guy I at first thought I was being teased but found this rpm works very well for my car. Combination of flywheel rotational mass and other stuff I can quote but don't understand. Owners manual shift points didn't change for the life of the car (that I can see) and I believe the AP2 engine has a heavier flywheel. Someone will correct this if necessary.
