Default Engine whines

Hey all..
Just noticed the other day that my engine makes a rev dependent high pitched whine. I'm 99% sure its coming from the engine.. Is this a sign of a potential problem? What should i check?

Thanks
Matt

Mine does it when it is idling in the morning. It sounds like it is coming from my intake I do have an AEM that could be doing it.

The rpm dependent whine is something that I can also hear. I usually hear it under light acceleration between 2800-3500 rpms, at higher engine speeds I can't hear the whine due to increased noise. I heard that this noise was the chain driven oil pump. I have absolutely zero data that can back this up, but I did read it on here. You might be able to search it up if you're really interested.

To the other posters, the high pitched whine at startup is your secondary air injection pump. It spins up when the car is cold to help light off the cat.

Ah, now I know what you're talking about. I guess we just have different definitions of "whine". All CAIs have a humming sound, I can duplicate this sound on my car if I pull off my stock airbox lid. This is perfectly normal.

I think I'm getting the same sound..its hard to describe but it sounds if like it was coming from the transmission....is like between 3k and 3.5k rpms....is not the intake....but is like pushing a piano on a shinny floor sound. .....whooouuh.....something like that..
