Unabagler right, no need to read any other posts:
Engine make you go. Brakes make you stop.
*Unless you A) own a Peterbuilt S2K and are hauling 30000 lbs of cargo with the top down, or B) like replacing your motor--do your car a favor and use the middle pedal when you need to scrub speed.

i use a combination of the two.
i downshift until about 15 mph, put the car in neutral and then use the brakes for the remainder. like said in some of the replies i love the way it sounds. i don't downshift through all the gears, normally only one downshift is all i will do.
for those of you who use just the brakes, how long do your pads last? i just had my car serviced a week ago and was told i had 75% of my pads left front and rear. my car has 15,000 miles on it.

Diff. gets torn from launches, not downshifting.
Larger brakes mean more control and better stopping UNLESS you're at ABS engaged from the second you step on the brake pedal to the time that you stop. That doesn't hardly ever happen. Bigger brakes are a better way to dissepate heat and means more control. I have bigger brakes (Wilwood) on my car and OMG can I tell the difference! It's not even funny. I bet I could lift the rear tires off the ground.

I love the stories of BIG BRAKE kits that , make your eyes bug out , lift the rear wheels off the ground , and on and on.
Sticky is all there is , your rotors might hold more heat , or they might cool faster . But driving on the street the only thing a better set of brakes might do ( this is a big might ) is allow you to better modulate the brakes , that is it!!!!!!!
