Engine ticking - aftermarket exhaust headers
Hi guys,
Just wondering whether anyone has the HKS exhaust headers and whether you have noticed an engine ticking noise with them. My engine ticks (faster as engine rpms rise) slightly and it really pisses me off when I drive next to other cars or a wall haha! The TCT was changed a while back (according to ex owner) and I'm just trying to eliminate different possibilities. I believe I have the full hks hi power exhaust on my car and I'm considering putting the stock headers back on to see whether that would make a difference.
Cheers

For starters, check for a leak in your header. Try tightening up the bolts. Do you happen to have a Billman TCT? There should be an engraved "B M" along the side of the TCT

don't think it's a billman. just had a listen and the noise does seem loudest around where the manifold is, and there was quite a bit if heat, maybe even fumes coming from around there..

Thin-walled runners on aftermarket headers are noisy as you describe, even with no exhaust leaks. You can increase noise on the stock header just by removing the heat shield. I'd say it's a combination of the two in your case.
