Absolutely not. One it is a massive waste of time. Two IMO, if your bearings are fine your actually at a greater risk for failure from the new bearings not wearing in just right either because you screwed something up or that the old bearings and crank just really liked each other.

Personally if I get to 200k and it is still running strong I am not even messing with anything.

Thanks for all the responses. From the sounds is it likely to have damaged the crank shaft if it is rod bearings?

I have it booked in at a garage on Friday as I don't have time due to work and I need to get it fixed ASAP as this was my daily drive. (borrowing a car at the moment)

I definitely think it's your pulleys, nothing to do with the engine. Rod knock is louder and more regular, this sound seems like either your idler or tensioner bearing is going bad. If it is, it's a cheap fix, look up bearing model 6203-2rs

How can pulley bearing noise stop with cylinder 2 disconnected?

Thanks!

I had the car at the garage today and they think its timing chain noise but think I should get a second opinion.
I am going to take it to a honda specialist and see what they think at some point next week.

Update - Honda specialist garage think it is valve adjustment. Unfortunately I live along way from them so i cant leave it with them over night to cool down. Currently looking for a suitable garage in my local area.

^ I'm not sure about this one (or many other things) but I think the whole valvetrain continues moving when a coil pack is moved? So I'm not sure how a valve adjustment would cure a noise that is only on one cylinder and goes away when the pack is pulled? I could be wrong

So does the cylinder, but the change in compression in that cylinder/valve seat area could change sounds occurring in either IMO

Hey,

Valves adjusted and no better. I am still driving the car daily and haven't noticed any change in performance(600 miles since it started now). The tapping is only when the engine is hot and then is revved now though. I am none the wiser.

I just listened to your actual videos and that seems to be the "unknown noise" on these forums. Lots of people have some variation of this intermittent tapping, including myself (mine isn't nearly as loud). I had an 06 with 20k on it that did the same thing as well. No one seems to have a clue what it is and many have tried all kinds of things. If it makes you feel better, I have never heard of anyone loosing an engine who had this sound prior. I chalked it up to normal S2000 noise, maybe some type of piston slap.
