It is NOT the belt tensioner. Besides, the serp belt tensioner is not a common failure at all. The TIMING CHAIN tensioner is a very common problem, but trust me it's not the either.
I'll second a scuffed bore. I've heard it a few times. do a hot compression test and post the numbers. You'll usually get higher compression in the scuffed cyl as a result of excess oil.

Car at 3 bars on the temp gauge.
shut it off, pull the fuel pump fuse.
ALL spark plugs out for entire test.
Hold the throttle plate wide open each time you crank it.
Let it crank around 6 times each cylinder.

in other words gas pedal all the way down each time. sorry, never did one of thoose. but i'll be on my way and post the numbers later tonight.
