Engine revs but car does not respond! Help!

if you're driving low rpm and shifting is fine its probably not your tranny
sounds like the clutch to me for sure

doubtful. either way the trans has to come down. a visual inspection of the clutch will tell the story.

Happened in my Civic. It was the clutch. Whats happening is when you rev the engine to hard the clutch isnt griping up. Thats why when you drive chill its still clamping up.

Just like everyone stated, it's your clutch, don't be scared. This is your indication that you need a new clutch, do it now before you mess up your flywheel.

Can this be a DIY kinda thing? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. Or would I be getting into something way over my head?

As everyone else said, it's your clutch. If you had a broken transmission, it would sound like bolts in a dryer.
