Engine removal from below - how to get A/C compressor out of the top
I'm in the middle of removing my F22 engine/tranny as an assembly from below. I finally have a large shop space and lift to do this. I'm trying to figure out how to get the A/C compressor raised out of the way to drop the engine/tranny from below. I removed the alternator, but I still don't have space to get the compressor out. I've looked into disconnecting my steering linkage u-joint assembly near the power steering rack which looks like that would provide enough room. According to the service manual removing the linkage involves removing the steering column which looks like a lot of work. My only other idea is to see if any friends have the proper equipment to evacuate the refrigerant or if I can rent the equipment. Then I could just remove the refrigerant lines at the compressor and finish the engine removal. Any ideas/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Removing steering column isn't that bad.
Some trim, then a couple nuts under dash, the bolts holding it to firewall, and another spline slip joint like the one by rack.
Some wiring plugs to disconnect as well.

Remove the AC bracket, that should give you enough room. That's how I got mine out from the top, didn't even have to remove the alternator. Just make sure you unplug the connector.

I removed all the bracket bolts I could find, but it wouldn't budge. I ended up removing the 4 steering rack bolts that are pretty easy to get to and I just pushed the rack forward to remove the steering u joint, then pushed the rack even further forward to get the splined shaft out of the way. Gave me just the room I needed to get the AC compressor out of the way. Wouldn't have had enough room just removing the u-joint. Bonus was that I needed to unbolt the rack and tie it to frame anyway after I removed tie rod ends in prep for dropping the engine/tranny with subframe attached.
