Same exact thing happened to me. I would be driving and BAM it would shut off. The problem was the MAP sensor. After spending a lot of money, my tuner found out that before shutting down the sensor would not see pressure and shut down the engine. You could test it with a multi meter.
Funny and scary story: I was driving on the freeway and was starting to merge on to a loop, and it shut off on me. Scary to say the least.
Good luck and hope I solved it for you.

The thrust washer thing, with that the engine locks up. It is much different from a typical stall, which involves loss of spark or fuel, where engines momentum keeps it spinning for a split second.
So I would expect the thrust washer thing to be a more abrupt stop that would be noticable. It would feel different than a normal stall.
Also, often with thrust washer upon attempt to restart, engine won't turn over, won't spin at all. Later it starts fine and everything seems fine. Its a ticking time bomb if you don't recognize what is happening. Can easily save engine if you fix it, engine will soon be toast if you don't.

Sure hope the fuse was the problem. Heck of a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.

Mine is doing this at higher elevations...like fuel is not getting injected at all, but I can hear the pump running at startup. It "fixes itself" after coasting back downhill.
