i don't see what the big deal about synthetic is. synthetic is just reprocessed dino oil. you know when you take your old oil back to autozone??? they send it off and it is reprocessed and sold as synthetic.

I don't think that's correct. The recycled oil say's "Recycled Oil" on the side of the container at my local shops.

Synthetic is cracked down to much smaller chains and then built back up again to be much more uniform and to have whatever properties are desired. The starting materials can be almost any hydrocarbon, including used oil. But this is quite different than just "recycling" the oil.

I am currently using Castrol Synthetic Blend. Price is about halfway between Conventional and Synthetic. I am making the transition to fully Synthetic. Current mileage is 12,300.

Is that what the Amsoil propaganda tells you?

Good god, thats plain dumb. After your 25k miles you should send some oil in to Blackstone Labs and see what they have to say. Also, you better be changing your filters more fequently than that!

Believe it or not, 'burner is right. I used the same stuff before, but only left it in for 5k. Although all sorts of wear tests show that that specific oil is the best out there, it seemed a little too light for the engine, and I was getting too much smoke in the exhaust on fast upshifts.

Mobil 1 was/is cheap enough at walmart and I have no issues changing the oil frequently.
