Default Engine Oil life

I don't use my S2k much. I have 30k miles and I have the 2007 model, bought it new. Car still in pristine condition.
The question I have is: For someone like me who under uses the S2k, how often should I change the engine oil?

In other words, there are the one who can do 5k miles in a months, while it takes me 6 months to do 5k miles. Is changing the oil every 6 months bad for the engine? It's not "how many miles before changing the oil" the issue. Is "TIME" the issue, since I under use the car.

Any input on this would appreciated

Why am I concern? Simply because if I keep the oil for 5 months with only 9k miles, can redline be bad for the engine, since the oil is 5 months old.......

Assuming you use synthetic oil, 6 month intervals is fine. By the way, my S is an '07 (got it on May) and it has 30,082 miles on it too.

If you are south of Canada, Honda states 7,500 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. So... change the oil every 7,500 mi or 12 months. Changing it more frequently will only hurt your bank account.

I never used synthetic oil.
But reading several other posts on this subject I am leaning towards the synthetic going forward

I bought mine on Dec 2007. I own the 2010 SI, so I rarely use the S2k. The SI is my dd

I only drive 5,000 miles on my S2000 per year! I change the Oil once a year and use full synthetic and quality oil filters.

07's had an oil life meter right? I'd go by that. Or once a year - whichever comes first.

when you get to drive you S2K, lets say the 5k/year that you put on it.. how hard are you driving it? are you romping on it hitting vtech? are you tracking it? if you are, you may consider changing the oil a little more often.

i only ask cuz since i have another car as a DD, when i drive the S2K on weekends or whenever, the hoon in me comes out so even though i really put < 10k miles/year on it i still try and change it every 3k.

That's a good point.
The S2k used to be my dd until Dec 2009 I bought the 2010 SI. That became my dd. I bought the SI simply because I want to keep the S2k pristine for ever, but I still wanted to experience VTEC. So the SI was a perfect balance between normal driving and VTEC when I feel like.

I use the S2k on weekends, most on spring/summer/fall seasons. On winter I very rarely use it. Since the S2k became the second car and use it on w/e only I VTEC more often.

So you are correct, I should still change the oil every 3k miles regardless of usage

if you want a REAL answer to how your oil is holding up and how long you can stretch oil changes, i suggest you send your used oil in for a used oil analysis (UOA) to one of the labs like Blackstone. IIRC, i believe they send you the kit and the analysis is like $20.

i've been on BobIsTheOilGuy.com oil forums for my Audi and those guys take lube seriously.

Blackstone UOA is the best and really the only way to know how your engine and oil are holding up, although it won't really inform you as to synth/dino oil.
