Default Engine noise - Loud drone and few other questions from a new owner

Hi,

Just purchased a UK 06 on 47k miles.

Love it to pieces! Couple of issues that I need to address and was hoping for your help:

Please see the following vid for a noise the engine is making in idle, when revved gently it actually gets quieter? What could it be? Noise is coming from the front left of the engine (UK Drivers side). Some kind of bearing? When I test drove the car I just figured it was the fan actually! :-/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVhfI...ature=youtu.be

Also when driving in higher gears there's a quiet high pitched hum which gets louder the faster engine goes. If i'm cruising at 70 in neutral you can only just hear it but if I gently push the gear stick to the right towards 5/6 and rest it there it gets louder? I don't think it happens in the lower gears not too sure yet.

And lastly I have a lot of condensation in the Left rear light cluster. The previous owner said he washed the inside seal in the boot and the water must have dribbled down into it which is fair enough, my question is how do I go about getting it all out!?

Many thanks for your replies,

Wayne

The noise is coming from the cone filter! I guess putting the top back on the box would quieten it but then it would also quieten the whole engine sound! Does this noise happen to everyone?

plenty of people do it, but its pointless and actually makes you lose power because of heatsoak...all you really get is a noisy intake

Thanks! I have just put it back on!

So does the K&N in your opinion suffer from heatsoak? And is it louder than the stock intake with the top off?

Cheers

i cant really comment on the K&N since ive never owned it...some people says it does, others say its fine...when i was researching intake systems, it seemed like all the ones that were the short ram style suffered from heat soak with the exception of the comptech system, which in my eyes is a CAI...so i went with an intake system that kept the filter out of the engine bay...if i had to do it over again, i would probably run a stock gutted airbox with a snorkel
