Performed valve adjustment today. Noise is still there but did not notice it at all under VTEC. But the noise was there through the VTEC band. It was raining during the test drive so I couldn't hear as much as I would like to. It did seem like the bolt closest to the firewall for the heat shield was loose, now to get a way in there to tighten it up... Hope this fixes the noise.

Well, I tightened the bolt on the exhaust heat shield closest to the firewall. The noise is still there.

While doing the valve adjustment, I inspected the retainers and keepers, all were even and not recessed. I know many had said there would be no noise if the retainers were cracked but it still was a concern.

Can anyone provide any other guiding light for the next possibility? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

To me, this suggests it could be something in the driveline. From the flywheel to the transmission, if you're sure the noise comes from the front. Possibly check the last clutch job the last owner did.

It's hard to catch it in time. However, since you brought that idea up, I tried something by rolling about 30-35 mph, with the car in neutral. I revved the car up to 3k then up to 6k, I could still hear the noise, coasting downhill, in nuetral, revving only. More thoughts? Thanks for adding info, all is greatly appreciated!

When coasting, if you step on the brakes, do you still get the noise? Maybe check for seized brake pads, and/or try new OEM pads.

That one will be tough to do but I will try that next time I drive it. I'm thinking I have 2 different noises that are happening, the one described and a different noise during VTEC....

I know the fronts are newish but are fisher brand pads. The rears are still on the oem pads and i'm wondering if somehow there is a resonance that is making its way to the back pads and causing the slight brake squeal. I will dig further into this, I will need to get the car in the air and mess around with it. Thanks for more ideas kukudm!! I will update as soon as I can test these!

Ok, to make sure that I was hearing in VTEC as normal, I checked some dyno videos of stock S2000's. I found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZFYQUnikTY, and the sound I was thinking was not "normal" was in 30-32 seconds of the video.

Soooo, I still have the high pitched brake pad squeal type noise when the vehicle is in gear and decelerating. I will replace the back pads and go from there.

30 second in, sounds like VTEC, to me. Valves now running off different lobes.

Yeah, I heard VTEC cam over at 27 seconds but at 30-32 there is another sound that comes in, like a high pitch hissing sound. I'm just glad to know it is normal, haha. Thanks for all the help man! All the components I replaced, needed it, so I'm thankful for that

Ok, further inspection of the exhaust shown 0 play or rattles while hitting with fist and using a rubber mallet. All came back great. However, While looking around, found 1 brake pad with the metal tab very close to the brake caliper bracket. I moved it around to get it off the bracket but the tolerance is still very close. A friend was also under the car looking around and found both lower A/c Compressor bolts loose to the point you could turn the by hand. I torqued them down and took a very short test drive. From what I can tell, there are no noises that were described in my first post. I will update later today when I have a longer drive. Thank you everyone for your input and guidance.
