Sure does sound like a bearing issue, if the offending noise changes when you pull #1 coil. Is there a noticeable loss of power, since the noise has become a problem? Or the car is just noisier, at idle? May have to live with it, until you can pull the engine, break in down, and take some measurements.

He may need to measure the clearance of the bearings and wrist pins. Using Plastigauge and a mike.

Can't be a wrist pin noise, if it was you'd hear a double knock.

I'm really thinking the chain stretched. But doesn't explain noise going away after taking coil 1 out. Is there anyway of checking if chain stretched without taking it off?

All rod bearings have no play at all. I will have to button it up and take it to a shop if I'm going to take measurements. I really don't want to take the rod caps off if I don't have to. I really got in there and jerked stuff around, there's no excessive play anywhere. I'm really surprised I don't see any scoring, I was almost sure I'd see something.

When or if something is found, I will definitely update the thread with all details. Drives me crazy how many loose ends I find when searching the forums and YouTube.

did you change the timing chain some time ago?

The bolt on the front timing chain pulley that one that has the allen bolt on the outside might be not tight enough, could be the washer play, take out allen bolt and than shaft bolt that holds in place the pulley, make sure the shaft goes all the way in so the washer is in place

check that and good luck
