Just found a similar issue over on the UK forum, A guy has the exact same noise, i think they established that it was down to the fact these engines are forged causing piston slap. But the thread was never really resolved with a difinative answer. So ive bumped it seeing if the Guy who created it ever sorted the issue.

Hi guys, I too have this noise, it has been there for a good 3 years. Here is my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NoxWHCS_HA

I am 99% confident it is just piston slap on number 1 cylinder as has been mentioned on here. As long as it does not turn into a loud knock IT IS OK.

the reason it goes away when you disconnect No1 coil is that you are removing the load on that piston so the "slap" is massively reduced.

MY 99 cars burns virtually no oil to speak of, pulls like a train and is 100% reliable, I would get in it and drive it anywhere anytime.

Stop beating yourselves up over it, it is very common.

Where just confused because all of our cars where fine with no noise. Then after an oil change it started. Well at least I'm a little confused and intrigued at what might had caused it to just start after an oil change.

The OP mentions using 10w-40. Is this what many of you that got the issue after an oil change are using?

You ought to consider a 0w oil, such as 0w-30. 10w is way too thick, even in summer.

Old school engines, heavy duty meant thicker viscosity. That don't fly with a 9k rpm precision jewel.

Been using Mobil One 5W-30 extended range oil (gold label). Seems to work very well. No oil loss. Hit redline many times from last change. Engine idles quiet. Revs nicely.

I change it every 5K miles.

Hello guys , I have the same noise for some time , I did check the valves twice , changed the chain tensioner ( new) , checked all the rocker arm , cam shafts , but nothing has changed !
When changing the oil is more marked , then slowly falls !
But I would understand , do you think is the chain ? ie which piece of the distribution of prciso envi noise would be doing ?

if it had piston slap would mean that something is not in tolerance and by what the boy says the post , he controlled everything in the engine , but the noise does the same! My going on for 30 000 KM !

Thanks to all

looking good today , I realized that the rocker arm of the cylinder towards the chain , have a minimum game (which would not cause any harm ) , this could be the cause of the beat . Then warming and the coming oil the noise disappears ; )

It can be a cause !

Does anyone think this has anything to do with what oil filters are on the car? Is everyone using OEM, or used OEM and then switched to another brand after the oil change and this issue started? My car is doing something very similar since Ive just purchased it. A friend said its because of the non oem oil filter on the car.
