I have searched the forums and found only one posting from July of 2002 regarding engine ID numbers, and am surprised that there were no responses to it. Are these number ranges not generally available from Honda? Don't the service manuals contain them? Anybody?

I do not own an S2000, but I have recently acquired a Lotus 7 replica which is powered by an S2000 engine and transmission. I have located the engine ID plate on the back of the motor and it appears to be "JHMAP114XYT001852". Can anyone tell me what model year S2000 this came from? I am also interested if the trannies have ID numbers and where they are located (I can't see anything on the top and sides, but haven't jacked the car up yet to look underneath.)

Looks like you have a 2000 F20C in there. As far as I know though, there are 0 changes between the model years.

As far as the tranny, can't help you there, sorry.

According to carfax, that's from a 2000 S2000.
The engine should have it's own serial number on it, not just the vin number of the donor car. I believe the tranny should have an ID or vin number on it as well.

Oil Jet Bolts and ECU (if that counts as an engine part) have changed at some point.

The engine number is located where the block meets the head on the intake manifold side, towards the front of the motor.

Great, Stratocaster! I found it, with that clue. Buried under the wiring and the front runner of the intake manifold was this stamp on the block= "F20C1-1001838". Now that I see it and fill in the faded spots, it does agree with the paper bar-code sticker on the front timing belt cover (what I thought said 2001 is actually 20C1, with an F in front of it.)

Any idea about the tranny serial#? Is it the "SCYM-1008148" that I found on the bar-coded sticker on the lower passenger side of the housing, or is that a part number? It does seem to have a similar format to the engine #. There are places on the side of the transmission that I can't inspect without dropping it from the car, due to the chassis structure.

According to the picture in the Helm's manual, the transmission id tag/stamp is on the passenger's side of the transmission, at the front of the transmission, near the bellhousing. The number is on the bottom of the transmission, of course.

The engine code is F20C1, as you discovered.

What brand and model of tires do you have on the front?

They are Falken Azenis, RS Sport model, 225/45-17 on the front, 245 in the rear. I am going to see if I can fit some slicks on 16s over the 13" rotors for autox.
