Engine fans running constant?

Engine fans running constant?
I recently bought a 2002 S2000.
One of the issues I have come across is the fan is running continuously from the moment I put the key in the ignition,
This is making it take an age to get the engine up to temperature, and to keep it there.
I'm guessing there could be two reasons, either the temperature sensor is dead, or the previous owner has messed with the wiring.
I have had a look under the bonnet, all wiring for the fans looks good, but I can't find the temperature sensor to check.
Can anyone tell me where I will find this?
Also on another point, I'm finding it difficult sometimes to get into 1st gear when cold? It seems fine once warmed up.
Could it be a case of new gearbox oil? Or are they generally like this.
Gearbox is superb otherwise!
Cheers
