^ resurfacing a flywheel weakens the overall integrity of its structure.
Yea I say phuk the dealer. There is someone on here Im sure that has a motor for you in excellent condition. Although, you are overseas and it might cost a considerable ammount for shipping. If it was I in your position I would locate someone on the boards with a low mileage motor and find a couple friends to tackle the install with me. There are tons of how-to's on this forum and finding online help will not be a problem. Doing the install yourself will not only save you a couple thousand USD but also give you the confidence and knowledge to tackle most of anything on the car in the future. If anything, use the old core thats in the car and pay a reputable performance shop 4k USD to build the hell out of it. Boost the hell outa that whore . Regardless of the choice you make, good luck to you.

isnt it common practice to resurface a flywheel? how much material are you taking off? not much i would imagine? but is it the idea that your resurfacing something that is cast that weakens it not so much that your taking metal away?

I have talked to several professionals that have experienced issues with this process. Considering the guys that have said this, I wouldnt recommend it

Wow, that's a considerable amount of mods done to your S. I bet that they saw a modded S come in and the first thing they thought of is "if he can pay for the mods then he can pay for a new motor and a some other misc stuff"...

What is the reason your motor took a crap?

I also noticed... 175kmph is about 110mph.. thats above normal revs and your crusing in vtec. Thats maybe why your motor died on you.

Resurfacing a flywheel is very common. I've never heard of anyone claiming their flywheel failed because it had been resurfaced. It's the same as a brake rotor - can be resurfaced to a certain point, just use common sense and don't do it too many times.

6$ for the new engine + labor + warranty is reasonable....for a dealership. If you are planning on keeping the car then I say do it, and change the clutch out like they said. Just don't let them charge you a lot for the clutch, if they are doing the engine, changing the clutch is like an extra 20 minutes at most.

If you are planning on trading the car in, then just put the used motor in and call it a day.
