Engine Damage missed shift at 75 mph
My brother in law was driving my car. He said he was going about 75mph when he tried to downshift to 5th gear, instead he selected 3rd. He said the rpms went up to somewhere around 8000. At that point he immediately shifted back to sixth gear. He drove for another 5 seconds, when he heard ticking noise from the engine, he pulled over the car and shuttoff the engine. When he tried to restart the engine it wouldn't start, the engine wouldn't turn over. The car was towed to my house at this point. I pulled the spark plugs, one of the plugs had obvious impact damage. I am assuming the engine siezed since it will not turn over. I checked the oil level it was normal. I'm planning on taking the car to honda specialist this week to asses the damage. Would a misshift like that cause that kind of damage, since the engine was not overreved? I've only had the car for about a month, it has 43k miles it is 2002, did not have any problems before this incident. I am assuming the engine will need a rebuild, would it be better to get another engine?
