Default Engine block drain bolt

I was wondering if anyone has removed this bolt and could share on how to remove it. I have searched and could not find any results other than alternatives to draining the coolant out. I've done some research on waterless coolant, and I am trying find a way to make sure that I can empty as much of the coolant as possible. According to the instructions, the waterless coolant can accept as much as 3% of water content or it will not work. This stuff is kinda expensive, but it will last forever and will not corrode any of the engine parts, including water pump or head gaskets. (Evans Waterless coolant)

I've read someone accessing the bolt from the bottom, but since I don't have a lift, I was wondering if someone has done it from the top by the filter side. Or do I also need to remove the battery shield and header heat shield to give me more access? A lot of work to remove a bolt...

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

The engine coolant drain bolt is simply the same as where the block heater goes. If you have a block heater, that's the drain hole. However, it is very difficult to get a tool in there and put enough torque on it to unscrew it unless you have the right equipment. It is not necessary to use that to drain the coolant. It is only there to drain the coolant from the low spots on the right side of the engine. You can accomplish the same task by disconnecting the low end of the oil filter coolant line. In fact, it is at a slightly lower point that the block drain hole.
Here's the block heater. If you have no block heater, there's just a big bolt there. You can just see the oil filter coolant hose to the right of the picture. Disconnect the other end just out of frame.

Thanks xviper! I did read your post instructions for a coolant flush on the other forum, and was going to use it as an alternative. But I just needed to make sure. Thank you so much!
