CAI, cold air intake, a lot of versions are routed with the air filter behind the passenger faux vent. Get into too deep of water or leave your car in a downpoor saturating the filter and it's a big slurpie straw.

haha he MUST mean kilo instead of MPH and wrote it backwards, sounds about right, 70 kmh in first would be about 39-40 108 in second would be about 67-69 right?

i've heard of jim knapp (not sure if he's the same person) before - i think relating to very high speed runs at bonneville. you don't have to be a professional to drive bonneville but i think you need a certain license to go past a certain speed.

If you times kilos by .62, you will have mph. My 03 s2k will do 39 in first, 60 in second, 88 in third, 113 in fourth, 135 in fifth, and I have not maxed out 6th. There is not enough power at that point anyhow. My speeds are derived from shifting at 9000 rpm except 5th gear(I was turning about 8,700 rpm because it would not spin any more so I shifted to 6th)

jimknapp says he did this with a blown head gasket along with rusted cam lobes. He also states that his top speed is in mph, not kilos per hour. You would need about 800 HP along with a tall set of gears and overdrive to go 258.839 MPH. All this with a blown head gasket and rusted cam lobes.

ok, please dont flame me forums are for learning and im asking something i dont know. can some one define a mechinical over-rev? also i once or twice have shifted 1-2 and the shifter either didnt stay in or i didnt put it all the way in, i thought it was in so i got off the clutch and hit the gas and it reved to the top where it gos red, is this a mechinical over-rev or did i just the the rev limiter?

mechanical over rev would be something like this:

Your at 8,000 RPM and climbing in 3rd gear, you get all excited and try to slam it into 4th... WHOOPS you drop the clutch and realize too late that you were in 2nd.

The built in safety feature to prevent accelerated over-rev (rev limiter and fuel cut-off) will have no effect on a motor that is, for lack of a better term, pushed over the line by the vehicles gearing.

If you are in neutral, the engine will NOT rev past 9000 rpm. This is the computer shutting the engine down. If you are in any gear, and try to go past 9 grand, again the engine will shut down.

If you accidentally went from 3rd gear at 88 mph and shifted to 2nd by mistake, you would be going 28 mph to fast. This is an example of a mechanical over rev. The engine is forced to over rev due to the gear.

I talked about this a couple of days ago, hope this clears things up. peace

No, I blew the head gasket and then replaced it before I ran. And YES the speed is in MPH. For the Euro types that's 416+ kilometers per hour. Almost 400 feet per second. And I went "out the back door" at about 8442 in 6th

And the motor is bone stock except for .008 off the warped head and and aftermarket injector controller. And yes you do need a special license ( a short process) to go that fast. Where? Bonneville Speedway, the funnest and fastest speed events on Earth.

The point though of my original e-mail is that I find the S2K virtually indestructible. Mine came from a wrecking yard and had 25k on the odo. And it does have rusted cam lobes except where they run on the rocker rollers. And it does get over 10,000 every so often when I screw up. And I just start it up cold let it ldle for about half a minute and then hammer it, hit the VTEC on/off switch at about 4000 in first and away we go. 0 to 200 in about 40 seconds. I love that motor.

There isn't actually a URL so you have to search for the proper page of scta-bni.org Try to find results for World Finals, Saturday October 18th, about half way down the page, car #690. They only posted the morning run. We went a bit faster in the afternoon.

Then if you go to Speedweek photos, Monday Aug 18th Page 1. My car is the red and silver one in the bottom right hand photo leaving the line.

And it is stock. With shorter headers to get the heat out of the car ASAP and an Electromotive Tec III we get 225-230 RWHP on the dyno.

And if you ever choose to go to the salt for an event Be Careful! If you're not on drugs now you will be after you leave. It's VERY difficult to get the salt out of your veins. I'm hooked!

Have a great day S2K fans.
