how do you know this worked if you leave your ECU fuse unplugged every time you start the car?
Well, I KNOW it worked for me. Others have described exactly the same symptoms. Of course it may not work for them, if they have other "issues".

I was simply trying to let people know that "at least for me" this totally solved my problem.

(I leave the ECU fuse out).
I am very surprised that even now, after the cleaning, that your engine will idle well at all. I experimented (for other reasons) running the ECU "BACK UP" fuse out and my engine would not idle worth a crap. In fact, it would often times die when I stopped at a stop sign or red light. The engine needs this fuse in so it can learn all kinds of things to run the engine properly - like barometric pressure changes. I'm not sure that the Idle Air Control even functions correctly without this fuse being in. If it never learns new parameters as in climatic changes through the year, it will always start up using the default settings that it was programmed with. ie, it should be running hellish rich and never maximize for performance. You may have a unique climate condition during the type of useage you put your car under, but certainly, this mode of operation will not be the optimal one for most owners.

ps. Sorry for the "off topic" and like I said, doing this cleaning is never a bad thing.

pps. Now that you have revealed that you run without the ECU fuse, your idling problems are not indicative of those of people whose cars don't have this fuse removed. As said before, leaving this fuse out will normally do weird things to your idle anyway.

One thing to consider and I don't know if the S2K has it in the throttle body. Some throttlebodys have a wax plug or hole and if carb cleaner gets in, can dissolve it then can really mess up your idle.

It makes me wonder if some sensor in your car isn't quite calibrated, and the ECU is having to adjust to the sensor over time.
Mine is an '00 and it no longer has this peculiar idle problem. It seemed to have learned after about the 3rd year. It has been running great since then and now that it's Vorteched, it's even better.

98TypeR#21 seems ignorant to the fact that xviper is THE MAN around these here parts....hahahaha...

Let me tell you 98TypeR, when xviper speaks most everyone that comes on these boards listens. Xviper is probably one of, if not, THE ONE person people turn to for advice about their S2000. I know he personally helped me and took the time to PM with solutions and answers.

My money is and will always be on xviper. I personally have never known or met anybody on this board or at S2000 meets that run without the backup fuse for the ECU in place. Sounds to me like you should have stated MY of your car, mods, and problem and then your solution. It's like if xviper said that he just dynoed his car and was making 300 rwhp without a supercharger...and then later mentions that he was running a nitrous system when he dynoed.

I'm glad your carb cleaner idea worked for you though.

It should not do anything to the plugs, but it will mix to some degree with the oil, I would change it.

I have done many butterfly cleanings over the years and it was always recommended to me to change the oil afterwards, but it is your car.
I needed an oil change anyway - a good excuse to get it done NOW.
