Default endplate on the cam chain auto tensioner

I was on the track 2 1/2 weeks ago when my engine started to smoke. I pull off track and shut the car off immediately, open the hood and see quite a bit of smoke from oil. The oil shoot out somewhere from the left side of the motor. Check the oil level and it was down about 1/2 qt., we tracked it down to the loose bolts on the endplate of the cam chain auto tensioner (check pictures on the other tread, the 2 bolts that are visible) so we tighten it up and it still shooting out oil, turn out the seal/gasket under the endplate was busted. Normally it should not come loose, but there are other bolts that do. Just tighten them up and you should be fine.

well, if the seals were busted, it probably allowed oil to enter and possibly lubricated the bolts...causing them to come loose.

a new endplate with loctite should stay tight...

but then again your problem was not the bolts, it was the blown seal...

Thanks guys. I'm guessing that the oil leak through the busted seal which could contribute to the loose bolts.

I have been street driven the car for a few days now and the oil doesn't get through anymore, it's dry.

I will keep an eye on it tomorrow at the track.
