Default electric door lock madness

Funny thing happened with my door locks. Pulled up to a gas station the other day, and the doors were locked when I tried to get out. The manual lever wouldn't unlock the doors. I had to use the remote to unlock, and then only had a half second before the electrically relocked.

Same when trying to get into the car. Hit unlock, have to open the driver's door within half a second or it relocks. No way to remotely unlock the passenger door. The passenger door can be manually unlocked from within the car.

Anybody run into this? Have a solution?

Thanks!

I don't know the answer but I'd ask slows2k he's very good honda mechanic. He moderates the forced induction forum.

But I'm happy to see I think a new question has been asked in here.

It sounds like a short somewhere to me or a failing solenoid.

It sounds like the plastic lock lever has broken. This happened to my car and it was an easy fix with JB Weld. Pull the door panel and it will be obvious if the lever has broken.

Yeah, sounds like one of the manual lock levers are jammed. Pop the door panel off (clips around the edge, screws at handle and 1 near upper front, just look around and pull gently, lift up and away from the hinge) and take a look at the plastic and the metal bars that they move, if they are bent it will have this affect (happened on my old prelude when swapping speakers).

I had a similar problem in My 91 Accord, but the locks just kept going open close open close open, had to pull the fuse to make it stop.

It was a small spring in the locking mechanism had worn out.

Thanks, fellers. It does seem like the driver's side manual lever is disconnected, it moves through it's normal range of motion, but you can feel it's not doing anything. I'll have a look in there...

I just swapped the actuator in my 94 Accord. Big pain in the butt. The door would lock and unlock several times and then buzz like crazy. When the window stopped working, I took everything apart and replaced it all.

So the power lock cycles back to lock as soon as it's unlocked?

This is usually caused by a bad door lock actuator.

Based on the description of the loose door lock lever, I suspect that the locking rod is also loose and jamming against something in the door, causing it to re-lock. At least, that was the case in my car when the plastic lever broke and the rod hung free in the door.

If not, then it certainly could be the actuator.

Just pull the door panel and let us know if that's the problem.
