Default ECU Problems (i think) Help!

My CEL light came on about 2 weeks ago after having a new clutch (problems with release bearing) so I took the car to a Honda dealer to get a diagnosic. I was told it was the primary oxygen sensor and would cost

Take it to get another diagnostic check done. Maybe the "trusted mechanic" didnt put it in right. or didnt put it in at all. maybe he forgot to plug the harness back in. or maybe something else is wrong. NEVER assume the check engine light came back on for the same reason. you could have had 2 trouble codes present and Honda didnt tell you. I say get another diag done and see whats up. and if its the O2 sensor again. take it back to ur mechanic and watch him take a look at it. just for a little insurance.

Thank you for that. I'm going to book it in again at Honda then next week. I wasn't sure if driving it was going to cause damage or not. Any one any ideas? I think you might be right about this mechanic, it seems strange that the problem has only occured since having the clutch done with him. Having said that, the clutch is now beautiful. pull the code yourself and post it. There is plenty of info on this site to help you resolve the cel. It could be anything.....even your gas cap. If it is the oxygen sensor, then resetting the ecu is going to do nothing... you need to replace the sensor. Bottom line.....pull the code yourself.

Excellent Point!

If the Check Engine Light is flashing DO NOT drive the car. Beyond that it would really be subjective/debatable depending on the DTC. I certainly wouldn't drive the car hard at any rate. Good Luck.

Good point as well.

Ok....Honda have now had the car back, according to their diagnostics it is the same primary oxygen sensor (even though it has now been replaced twice) and the car still wants to stall when you depress the clutch presumably because it doesnt know it is running rich or lean. The CEL light remains on. I think Honda are confused too as they havent given me the car back!! Any ideas?

Thanks again. W

Post the actual DTC's if you have them. I suppose if you know the sensor is good, possibly a bad or damaged wire or connection? I think if the resisitance on the wire is off due to a bad splice or other damage the sensor will not function correctly. I also think there is a DTC for a bad ECU. I don't know how that works, or if I would trust something that has failed to report it has failed.

Besides computers don't ever fail or make mistakes, right?

EDIT: Is it an OEM O2 sensor, or aftermarket like Bosch or something?
(These are USDM OEM Honda part #'s. Also I see in your original post you were qouted 220 English Pounds for the part, that seems high considering the US dollar price.)
36532-PCX-A01 Secondary Cat $227.00
36531-PCX-014 Primary Manifold $227.00
Is the correct sensor installed? I don't know if they are even physically interchageable, just asking.
