The same system is used on the Comptech SC. Under partial throttle you can hear the excess air escaping (especially since I rerouted the bypass to open air).

Hmmmm...yep you're right...I just checked the Comptech SC install and the have the bypass value on it...strange because I looked in the SC book last night to see if centrifugal SC also had bypass valves...didn't say they did. Oh well looks like I need to read that book cover to cover now....

Hey so is this bypass valve good or bad for driveability?

I don't want it to be like a nitrous application on/off sort of deal, i want great all round driveability and it just feels like a bigger version of the F20C.

Would this be achievable?

PS the KB is very nice but too big for this app.

I guess the logic is that if you only have the pedal half way to the floor then you don't want any more power.

Because the engine is spinning the compressor is compressing. But there's no point in pushing against a closed throttle butterfly. So you release it via the bypass.

When you floor the throttle the butterfly opens and the vacuum disappears and you get full boost.

Okay, but what is the transition like?

Is it smooth and controllable, or is it like an on/off switch?

Was the Eaton quiet or loud? I've heard an Eaton prototype on a VR6 that sounded like a dentist's drill. In other words, crap.

On the other hand, for like AMG Merc's they're dead silent.

Eaton M90's(roots type) on the Grand Prix's often sound like blenders on crack.

Some MB's use Lysholm/Autorotor designs(screw type) and are very quiet.
