Default Eaton supercharging

Hey all,

I'm toying with the idea of using an Eaton or other roots type supercharger on the S2000.

I'm not entirely sure how this will pan out, but I was thinking of having an air/water aftercooler in between the SC and the intake ports of the F20C. Whether or not there is enough room there is something I haven't figured out yet. I am going to pop the hood soon and take some measurements.

So, I am uncertain as to whether the Eaton M62 or M90 is the better selection for the S2000. I am thinking it should be capable of about 9psi, and say there's a 2psi drop across the aftercooler, that leaves a nice 7psi, intercooled into the motor.

The M62 pushes 1l of air for every revolution and has a max rpm of 14,000rpm.
The M90 pushes 1.5l of air for every revolution and has a max rpm of 12,000rpm.

So, how do I go about figuring out the correctly sized supercharger for this application? Do I take the max CFM the F20C flows and then multiply it by (14.7+9)/14.7 to get the CFM the blower needs to push out?

And any other thoughts on the project would be helpful.

It would look very similar to the Ogura setup:

Go to:

www.brperformance.com

They are pretty much the pioneers of an MP62 kit for the Miata, based loosely, very loosely on Jackson Racing's design. But, it pretty much kicks a$$. I think an MP62 would be a great match and is actually 90% efficient up to 14,000 rpm. Read through their forums for info. I think the M90 would be too big.

So personal opinion

roots SC == bad for s2k.....

roots much less thermally efficient and generally leads to higher temps going into your aftercooler...

I have some reservations about being able to fit an aftercooler between the engine and the SC. I'm not 100% sure the ogura kit is aftercooled either. At any rate a roots style SC has to reduce temps by a larger amount than other types....

The screw style supercharger may be a better match for this type of project. Better thermal eff. and results in temps similar to centrifugal.

Thanks for the heads up. It looks like a Whipple may be a better, more technologically advanced choice. Any other brands you'd recommend?

Whipple is the only real screw type supercharger and is the only 'positive displacement' supercharger that can match a centrifugal or turbo for efficiency. It's also the only supercharger that can match a turbo or centrifugal supercharger for efficiency while still producing even levels of boost at all rpm! I'm not a huge roots fan, but with intercooling I think they would be very impressive.

Okay, the general idea of this project is to make the F20C behave like an F20C with 1.5 extra cylinders on it. That is, i want it to feel similar to stock, but with 50-60lb/ft of torque everywhere across the powerband.

The Whipple should be able to approximate this kind of performance. I want it very quiet as well, and of course when you open the engine bay, it has to look great, like a high-end tuner car.

Is this even possible on a LHD car?
