Easy 43HP Gain for S2000! See for yourself!!!
I always hear people bitching about how hard it is to make power gains with the S2000. Well check out this site where an Australian tuner is making some serious power gains with easy mods.

Who here is going to try it? Can anyone verify these claims?

I don't know about the Tornado making HP, But I did know a guy who claimed it improved fuel economy. But then again, he is the same guy that used to bring donuts into the shop for us mechanics when I worked as a tech at Firestone.

This article has been around for a couple of years and nobody ever gave it too much consideration. One major problem is that they are only getting 152 hp at the wheels. No one has ever tested that low. I think we have had enough dynos done in this club that show changing your exhaust may give you a 5-7 hp boost but nothing more.

Ohhh @#%!...This is the article that turned me on to buying the S2000 to begin with....There goes that idea.....Well it's a good thing I like the my S2000 for her handeling prowlessness.

"...a dead standard car puts out about 152hp at the wheels..."
Umm, no. Stock cars dyno at around 195-200 to the wheels using Dynojets. Now, the dyno they used is by "Dyno Dynamics"; I don't know what kind of unit it is, but even a Mustang dyno would read more than 152 bone stock.
"...As the car arrived at the workshop already equipped with new rear mufflers, the [stock reference HP] is from another completely standard car..."
Well, we're off to a great start! Comparing a modded car to a completely different vehicle!
"...with the rear exhaust boxes upsized a little and replaced with free-flow designs...peak power jumps from that 152hp to more like 173hp, a very substantial gain of 14 per cent..."
It's well known that exhausts gain little or nothing. Even single-outlet pipes only gain 5-8 hp. You can bet that the car they brought in would have dyno'd at at least 165 stock.
"...piggy-back a MoTeC M4 programmable ECU (complete with ignition expander) onto the standard computer...power graph peaked at 187hp "
This is a legit way to find more power. Haven't heard of MoTeC's product being used on the S...anyone with any experience? Note, though, that this mod is certainly NOT "easy".
"...removing an internal baffle in the box, leaving the standard over-bonnet intake in place and adding large diameter convoluted tube picking up air in front of the radiator...power responded again, rising to a rousing 195hp at the wheels..."
CAI's are also a legit power adder. 8 hp sounds about right.
And that's it! Woo-hoo! They got all the way back up to stock power!
Note that the proven gains were only 22 hp (173 to 195), and were due to sophiticated programmable ECU and a CAI. Compare that to the AEM EMS, which has been shown to give 20-30 hp, and the AEM CAI, which has been shown to give 5-10.
I don't think there's anything revolutionary here.
