not true. it depends on how low on oil you get. when i first had my s2k i made the typical not checking the oil mistake and my car was doing the EXACT same thing yours is. when i drained and refilled, it never happened again.

i've seen other s2k that when low on oil with stumble onto vtec and fall on and off the cam all the way to an early redline.

well, the reason i said oil has nothing to do with it, is because the oil is topped off. and a few of us came to the conclusion that it may be due to the extremely cold temps, and the dash led's still being pretty cold. in other words, the car was bouncing off the rev limiter at 8k, but the led's were slow to catch up with it. but when i would drive the car around for more than 15 minutes(giving it more time for the inside to warm up), it wouldnt have this problem. another reason why it wouldnt be the oil is that the vtec engagement is extremely smooth and strong. thanks for the input though

when you get to redline, the computer keeps the engine from going to any higher rpm. the rpms will 'bounce' off of the rev limiter. you'll know when you hit it.

Are you using oil per the manual?

The car was at three bars of temp., oil level was perfect, but it was about 20 degrees outside.

well, i have been monitering this, and sometimes, even though the car would be COMPLETELY warmed up, even after driving for more than 20 minutes, there has been something i noticed. now, not sure if its just be, but it almost seems that on most redlines, the rev limiter does seem to come a split second before the red lcd's light up. i mean, it is very close. i remember in my ap1, the red lcd's would flash a few times very fast right before the rev limiter would kick in. i dont know if this has something to do with 06 changes, but i'm pretty stumped. wish it would just get warmer here!
