EARLY REV LIMITER

^^^I agree.
It is most likey the gauge lights being cold and responding slowly to the signal to light up when told.
I would imagine that even after 30 minutes of the heater being on high, those dashboard components would still be cold internally.

when the water temp reaches operating temp(middle) it's actually 5min after that til the car is fully warm.
another possibility is what was mentioned about the leds. when they are cold they seem to function slower(dimmer in appearance from experience too). perhaps it did reach the regular rpm

thanks guys a ton for the help and replies. but i've come to the conclusion, that its most likely the digital cluster. like a couple above stated. i know in the freezing cold, when i start the car, some of the cluster lights would randomly flash. and what i was experiencing was probably the cluster still being freezing cold, and i was probably hitting the rev limiter at 8k, but the cluster wasnt keeping up. drove around a bunch today, and when i had the heat blasting, and got the inside pretty toasty, it wasnt doing it. thanks again all

something similar happened to me this morning. It was really cold outside, the engine was warm. But i did noticed that the LEDs in the dash did not illuminate as quickly as they normally would. (same thing on my cd player)
i get a feeling that the engine did in fact rev to 8k but the led gauge was a little slow due to it being very cold. I could see them illuminate slower than normal (redlined 2nd gear)
It only did it once. after that i guess the gauges are warm enough?

Happens to me all the time. The LED's on the tach light slower and lag behind the actual rpms. When the car's cold I have to remember to shift "earlier" while WOT.
I didnt have any problems with my s2k though. It's actuallly pretty accurate for me. And it's freezing in NYC tonight.
