Same thing happened to me. I was about 20 minutes into driving, on 3 bars. And it kicked in at 8,700 or so.

Even when i let my car warm up for 15 minutes, the car is still cold. I turn on the heat at full blast and its still a little cold. But i cracked vtec today for the first time in two weeks, and it pulled hard as hell. It was about 8 degree's out today.... but i get tire fire in 1st and 2nd. I think your oil pressure droped at 7800 and dissengauged vtec, and a rev limiter hit. Limp mode was a baitch in all of my obd1 setups... Maybe that or you had tire fire

Turn VSA off and try it. The tires might have started to loose traction thus VSA killin the throttle.

Then again, if your on summer rubber don't vtec when its 25 degrees out...your asking for a crash

the vsa light was not flashing, and it felt nothing like vsa engaging. this was more like a rev limiter. when vsa engages, it completely bogs the engine down, it does not bounce.

I put in the modifry rev beeper. In order to get it to work I had to set it at 7800. The temp was about 45-50 degrees. The temp guage was at 5 bars after all the testing to try and get the beeper to go on at 8000. Oil was new and full. The rev limiter was kicking in at 7900. Assume that it was colder air but no expert in these things.

something similar happened to me this morning. It was really cold outside, the engine was warm. But i did noticed that the LEDs in the dash did not illuminate as quickly as they normally would. (same thing on my cd player)

i get a feeling that the engine did in fact rev to 8k but the led gauge was a little slow due to it being very cold. I could see them illuminate slower than normal (redlined 2nd gear)

It only did it once. after that i guess the gauges are warm enough?
