Just curious - have those that report the valve train noise at startup changed the oil filter to a non-OEM style? The Honda filter (and some other high quality units) has a non-return valve that limits the amount of oil that drains from the filter when the engine is turned off. The idea is that oil will start flowing to the engine faster if the filter does not have to be refilled at startup.

My engine does not make this noise, I use OEM filters but I also live in a very warm climate - yet another variable .

OEM everything.

I paid good money for that AHM extended warranty and I'm not even letting any non AHM AIR into my engine. If Honda made gasoline, I'd buy it until the warranty is up.

Honda oil filters here. 1st oil change at 4000 miles, 2nd oil change at 6500. I notice that right after both oil changes the valvetrain does appears to be a little noisier than normal. I'm still debating on whether or not to have my dealer adjust the valves. I think i'll wait until I switch to synthetic to see if there is any improvement.

1st oil change - Honda OEM.
2nd oil change - Purolater.
I went to Purolater based on the oil filter test that was posted here a while back. It was supposed to one of the better filters out there. I have NEVER had any tapping.
The Honda filter was supposed to be made by an aftermarket manufacturer of another well know filter and I can't remember the thread this was in. Anybody?
