Default Dyno of Toda Pistons and Cams

Does anyone have any? I REALLY want to order them right now, but I'm feeling a little apprehensive about doing it without some approximation of what kind of effect they'll have. As everyone knows, all the "easy" hp has already been taken advantage of with our motor, but I've even had a few people tell me the Toda pistons and cams won't make that much of a difference either. I realize I would be spending 5k for everything plus the AEM EMS, not including labor. I just don't want to do regret it afterwards with +50hp and -$6000.

For about the same money you could put a SC on it and add 100+ hp.

If you're expecting +50hp out of cams & pistons, you'll probably regret it. The cams (assuming you're referring to the Spec A's) are worth about 6hp on a stock motor, so maybe 10hp on a motor with I/H/E. Click here for my results on a stock motor. I don't know about the pistons, but I'd guess you may be able to get another 10-15hp out of them. Tune it all and you'd be lucky to get 50hp (assuming you already have a free flowing I/H/E combo). I'd say closer to 30... but that's just a guess, since I've never seen what the piston kit does for our car.

Now... something to keep in mind is that you may not see huge gains on the top end, but you'll see some nice power/torque gains in the mid-range, which is something that may be enjoyable without the bragging rights of peak power.

Like Sideways said, if you want to take the cheap & easy way out, you should just supercharge it. The hp per dollar ratio is much better.

ive been meaning to ask the same thing here, but my question is if you are talking about the toda 13:1 pistons what kind of gas are you going to use? the reason i ask is becasue i heard you might not be able to run 93 octane. also mxt, what would you expect from toda pistons and and spec C cams, with a
I/H/E set up in place already and tuned with AEM EMS?

I think you could run 13:1 on 93 octane, but you wouldn't be able to tune as aggressively.

As for the Spec C cams... I wouldn't even venture a guess. As far as I know, no one has installed them because they require aftermarket pistons, and not many people tear into the bottom end for an NA build-up.

How can cams require 100 octane?

The Spec C cams are considered "race engine only" because they require pistons with bigger valve reliefs so you don't get valve to piston contact. However, you could still put in 11:1 pistons that have the clearances needed to work with those cams. Then you wouldn't have to use race gas.

Now... if you put in Toda's 13:1 pistons... *then* you may need to run higher octane. But I've heard of other engines running as high as 13:1 on pump gas. I don't know why the F20C couldn't do it (if tuned properly).

But, if "Toda says it is so"...

regular gas and 13:1 is fine so long as you make the effort to reduce physical det producing areas in the CC.
