Default dyno results with and without airbox cover

was down at my local rolling road to get a few runs done on my s2000 to make sure she was running ok

the car managed 219bhp with the airbox lid on

and with the airbox lid off it managed 228bhp

mods on car are K&N filter in standard airbox, amuse manifold, skunk2 mega power catback and decat

looking at the results the car seems to lean out when in vtec but im putting that down to the upgraded exhaust system without any tweaks to the maps to correct the AFR

i can post up the 2 dyno graphs but there on seperate sheets and he is emailing me the two graphs on top of each other to show the difference more clearly

but i realize that in real driving conditions the gain may not be as big

any thought on the matter if this sounds like sense or has it already been proven true?

It is possible on the dyno with the hood open, but with the hood closed driving down the street you would feel heat related losses in various driving conditions.

What were the air fuel numbers, if you made more power with the intake mod you likely werent running too lean, rather benefiting by reducing the overly rich stock settings.

X2..

Should have done two pulls hood open (lid on/lid off)

And then your other two pulls hood closed (lid on/lid off)

x3

With the lid off and the hood closed it's going to suck in more hot air than with it on. Trying to compare the difference between the airbox lid on and off is pointless if the hood is open.

Yeah man you need to run the car with hood closed lid on vs hood closed lid off.

Removing the lid will lose HP every time. Proven years ago.

Do a roll test in 3rd gear with another s2k. Switch lids from car to car. The car with the lid off will fall behind.

Yep. You loose power. The car will bog bad from a dig.

I loved the sound with the lid off but I didn't like the power losses or the outrageous intake temps (Scangauge confirmed), so I got the K&N FIPK.
