We were also weirded out when Suzuka above dyno'd so low with Mugen header and exhaust. We decided to stick that intake tube just for fun and it gained him 15 hp. Could it be that air is exiting faster than being sucked in (header+exhaust+restrictive intake)?

With only a AEM intake, Spoon header, Spoon N1 exhaust (with the stock cat) I got 195hp and 135 trq when I dynod my car on a dyno jet.

I think what mingster said needs to be taken into consideration. The S2000 is already highly strung from the factory. To replace certain parts that are already tweaked to perform with this F20C1 without understanding what you're buying is just another way of throwing away your money. If it's sound, looks, or the "I'm all Spoon, all Mugen, or all *insert brand name here*" philosophy that has you modding your car, then you should be happy with most of the products available out there. Mix and match as you please.

But when it comes down to developing a formula for improving the power output of the F20C1, you definately need a gameplan. The S2000 is no Civic or WRX. It doesn't have a highly restrictive intake, a cast iron header, a hand-me-down restrictive cat (or cats), or a hand-me-down exhaust system. Naturally, if you replace the already well designed cat, header, and exhaust with some parts that is "free flowing," you really cannot assume that it's going to lead to gains. Most tuning shops go by experience not an engineering degree, which is why they will employ the advice they give to most owners of Honda VTEC motors. This is not to say there aren't folks who are experienced with the F20C; they are just few in number.

The lesson learned is that you really can't go out and buy every product from a tuner hoping to get huge gains. I hope you find a tuner that can help you without throwing away all the money you've already spent.

i bet its the dyno. did you dyno on a different dyno? read an article in Turbo Magazine, 6 different dynos, 1 car (350z), in 1 day. the results was interesting, but i remember 10-30WHP difference from all the 6 dynos. it doesn't matter how much WHP you make but the gains that is realized from the mods. so dyno your car on the same dyno all the time.

Sounds like he did use the same dyno since they have his baseline.

For the most part I agree but it only takes a $50 intake to show gains above the stock system (which let's face it, has its priority with sound control first and performance second, hence all the baffles) and a $400 Spugen to show gains above and beyond the OEM catback. While the S2000 certainly pushes the performance envelope higher than any previous Honda, there still is plenty of
margin left for improvement though certainly nothing like the 20hp I've seen from Acura RSX-S CAI's.
