Put your airbox lid back on. You could gain up to 10 HP by doing that.
Got a dyno to prove that?

Not 10hp, but it has been dyno-proven that a car with the airbox lid on makes more power than it does when off. I hope you aren't driving around like that on a daily basis.

Yea, actually, I am. Very rarely do I push the car past 75%...aside from the track, where I'm 100% into it. I never have the airbox lid on, the cool sound from the intake results in a higher level of enjoyment for me, I can suffer a few hp loss.

I just wanted to check these results against some other dyno results, and see how off my numbers are, whether they be due to the mustang dyno itself, or if my airbox lid really does make that much of a difference. Thanks for the replies so far guys, keep em commin!

Why not get an aftermarket intake so you get both the cool sound and a slight power increase?

My Mustang dyno of a stock 2002 gave 191 hp / 123 ft-lbs. Those numbers are SAE corrected to temperature and humidity.

That small loss is probably due to the airbox lid being off and sucking some hot air. The other possiblity is that you dyno'ed on a hot humid day and didn't get the numbers SAE corrected. 4 hp is so small it might just be car to car differences or dyno error anyways.

I'd get an intake, but since I autocross, that'd throw me into a class with an even worse PAX than AS already has. It was kinda hot out (85), but not that humid.

Since you want to stay stock for AutoX, I'd say slap the top back on and just plug up the resonater hole in the intake box. That should give you a little more sound then stock but without the performance hit.

yeah, i took the top of off my car and there was a definitely noticable amount of power lost. even though it does sound much cooler, i slapped that top back on there as soon as i could cuz the power loss was ridiculous.

Yea but the losses are from the heat soak. if he was dynoing the car more than likely his hood was open and being hit by fans.

Was this the case?

If so the airbox being open didnt lose any power

Yea, the hood was open, and 3 large shop fans were blasting air into it.
